For the past fifteen years I have been traveling to Dubai frequently as friends of mine live there. And every time I discover something new! Of course Dubai is made of superlatives. Constantly something is under construction and new attractions arise. But there are also many unknown parts and fascinating spots. Recently I had visited my beloved holiday destination and again I discovered new hot spots!

the best comes from above
If you don’t know Dubai yet you should get an overview from above. The best spot for that is on top of the Burj Khalifa, the highest building worldwide with its 828 meters.
From the 124th floor you have a magnificent panoramic view.
You can get up there from the Dubai Mall – which is the biggest shopping, entertainment and leisure center. It has 1,1 sqm. Crazy!
In principle I always spend too much money there.
Brand new is the 150 m high Dubai Frame – the biggest picture frame of the world.
Since the beginning of 2018 you can get up there but if you have a fear of heights – like me- you shouldn’t, as it has a glass floor!
the old Dubai
If by now you have the impressions that Dubai only consists of high building, you should make a detour via the old part which has its very own charme. Next to the Gold-Souk inside the Deira district you will find a spices bazaar which also offers all kinds of souvenirs such as lamps or textiles.
I often buy small bags or camel soap as presents. It smells wonderfully of cardamon and vanilla.
The arabic culture and oriental charme merge nowhere else more beautifully. Of course negotiating is part of the business.
At the entrance of the Souk district the Dubai Creek flows along, a 14 km long inlet from the Persian Golf. You can cross the river within minutes with one of the typical water taxis made of wood. A great experience! You should have coins ready!
„From old to new“- is something that Arabs master perfectly. Be it at the wonderfully restored artists district Bastakis or also at the adjacent district Al Seef. That one was newly build and is separated into a historic part and a new hip area with many cafes and stores. There you will find the Museum of illusions, quite fascinating.
California feeling at the desert state
If you don’t want to go on an adventurous desert safari you can also just relax as there bis enough sand everywhere. Brand new is the beach part “La Mer” with a 2.5 km beach and a really cool atmosphere.
Restaurants, cafes and stores line the small promenade and the sustainable buildings are painted with colorful street art.
I personally like the kite beach a lot.
Here you can try out all kind of water sports and the numerous booths and the atmosphere remind me of California.
You have a great view on to Dubai’s landmark, the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab, at the white Jumeirah Public Beach.
Dubai Entertainment at its best
For me Dubai also means pure variety. Every time I sit I find a new attraction.
My absolute highlight are the Dubai Parks and Resorts, a giga leisure park.
In Bollywood you can go on an action journey with Shah Rukh Khan and other superstars.
It is almost unbelievable that ALL of that was made by humans.
And the Motiongate cinema shows more then 10 Blockbusters such Tribute to Panem or Shrek which are role models for genius performances.
My son almost flippet out due to the roller coasters while I was flashed in general by the whole set up. The parks are definitely the new must sees in Dubai.
When the lights go out in the evening…
I love it to go out in Dubai. On the contrary to Berlin „come as you are“ is not popular. The people here love to dress up and the warm climate seems to be responsible for a good mood. The One & Only at the landing stage of the famous sand island „The Palm“ offers delicious mediterranean dishes and savory wines. In addition you have a breath taking view over Dubai.
The Asia Asia at the marina is also very popular. as the name implies the menu contains all kinds of Asian dishes.
My favorite is the new Lock, Stock & Barrel inside the Rixos Hotel at Jumeirah’s beach promenade. The LSB, as it is alles by the Arabs, is a mix of restaurant, bar and club –spread over two floors on 8000 square meters. The original LSB inside the Grand Millenium Hotel has already been awarded as best bar. No wonder as you can really have party there. The bar is in the hands of a sympathetic couple (she is German, he is for the Netherlands). They created a real hot spot.
By the way the major days to go out are Thursday and Friday as people work on Sundays at the Arabic Emirates. Usually the party is over at 3 a.m. and people go home. Just because of the glittering lights every time I vista I fall in love with Dubai again.
